Incorporating a Variety of Grains into your Menu

Course Description:

Feel stuck in a rut with your grain options? Sometimes, though we are eating or serving a variety of different foods, they are often made with the same grain. For example, pasta, muffins, and bread are all delicious, but made from wheat. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with wheat, incorporating different grain foods into your menu can help expose young children to a variety of energy, vitamin, and fiber-packed, healthy options.

This training will discuss why grain foods (especially whole grain foods) are important food choices for growing children, simple ways to prepare alternative grain foods, and practical solutions to introducing these foods to young children.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training, successful participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the benefits of consuming grain foods.
  • List at least three whole grain food choices that can be easily incorporated into early childcare menus.
  • Detail at least two methods of introducing new foods to young children.

Clock hours: 1.0 clock hours Course Cost: $10

This training is approved by:
